Step 7

Represent the Highest Standards of Operation

Employed or self-employed doesn't matter to being professional. Responsibilities are greater for the business owner, but both are professionals. There are thousands of grooming businesses that are not striving to operate to the highest standards of operation for many reasons. Some of them don't have the training and operating a business is a struggle, so how can they look forward? Some groomers get so much training and figure, "That's enough. I am getting my pay and that is fine."

Our goal is that PetGroomer.com inspires today's and tomorrow's leaders. Pet groomers are great people no doubt, but we cannot more respect and professional recognition if we don't have common standards of operation that impress the consumer public. How can we expect pet owners to pay more, although it's already well deserved, when there are still thousands that haven't reached higher to learn more, and be more.

A successful looking business attracts more attention, and a great location with customer conveniences can make a great difference. Your road sign should be clean, easily seen and read from a major roadway if possible. Invest in quality equipment. Of course, the business has to live up to its appearance, and as someone caring for a valuable collection of beloved pets every day, your standards of operation as eminently important. Hygiene, safety, cleanliness, courtesy, convenience, written and complete records, your business' brochure, your employee handbook, job descriptions and many more elements of small business are key to your success. You can do it. That is what PetGroomer.com is all about.

There are successful pet grooming businesses of only one or two persons as well as those with twenty or more employees. They are all a "success" because they have written and adopted the highest standards of operation for both pets and pet owners. In an industry that is not required to be vocationally certified or licensed, it's all up to you. You set the standards, and you supervise their operation. Everyone grooming business starts as a small seed and grows, but not everyone starts with the a commitment to create and implement the highest standards of operation that are a rich soil which grows healthy, blooming businesses. If we hadn't done so, there would be no PetGroomer.com.
