| Grooming is pets and people in
motion, and very physical work. For most grooming businesses,
Saturday's are the busiest day of the week. Small grooming
businesses may groom 6 to 12 pets on a Saturday. The school in
this picture regularly books 50 or more Saturday and Sunday
appointments, and up to 90 appointments a day during holiday
periods. Are pets groomed in larger businesses getting less
attention than they require or deserve? As long as the owner
allocates adequate well-trained and supervised staff there should
be no difference whatsoever. Pets requiring extra care for aged or
disabled conditions and personality alerts are best groomed early
in the work week when fewer pets means less noise and distraction.
Both groomers pictured above are carrying the pets instead of
leading them on the floor in order to prevent them from picking up
any loose hairs, and to avoid making contact with pets of other
families. Socializing pets of different families exposes pets to
the inherent risk of sudden and unexpected altercations even under
the most controlled circumstances. There is never any reason for
business owners to expose their business interests and employees,
as well as the pets being care for, to unnecessary risk.
Professional groomers really are people and pet safety proponents
and supervisors at all times. |
