COAT & GROOM TIPS

The Brussels Griffon has wiry and dense rough coat, and for show dogs it should be hand stripped. The body coat on the other hand is short, somewhat dense and glossy, not wiry. The haircoat is usually shorter on the rear and tail. A mane adorns to adult dog comprised of durable hair. Long hair on the head, eyebrows and beard stands off and frames the face. Hair on the ears is short.

Very little or even no clipping is vital to maintaining the coat and overall appearance. Light brushing is required to remove hair shed and any mats. Blending shears are used to remove hair on the outside ear leather. Start at the base and go toward the tip. Remove hairs that may be in the inner corner of the eye. Overall the head has a rounded shape when styled correctly. Neaten the body and legs leaving a natural look.

MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

Using modern high velocity dryers to blow off excess water after the bath saves a tremendous amount of drying time. Some groomers prefer to use a pin brush instead of slicker brush for the hand fluff dry process. You can expect even more loose hair to remove after the bath, and finish with a final comb out.

A pH-alkaline balanced shampoo helps damaged coats on this breed.

Multi-Breed Books

These books contain little or no breed specific grooming information. They do provide very good to excellent general breed information. Of course, having pictures of the breed is a great help when grooming the breed compared to having nothing else.
