COAT & GROOM TIPS

Giant Schnauzers have a double coat. The outer coat is somewhat wiry and hard. The soft undercoat is somewhat dense. Coarse hair should comprise the top of heard, eyebrows and beard. Owners not showing their dog nor demanding a full coated Giant Schnauzer may choose to having the pet clipped with a shorter coat by preference. Showing the dog requires a well-managed full coat specialized styling.

We highly recommend acquiring a how-to grooming guide from the sources below. The complexity of styling this breed is well above-average using both clippers and scissors. Working with a reference picture can be essential.

MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

The Giant Schnauzer head should appear rectangular, not round.

Multi-Breed Books

These books contain little or no breed specific grooming information. They do provide very good to excellent general breed information. Of course, having pictures of the breed is a great help when grooming the breed compared to having nothing else.
