COAT & GROOM TIPS

Some owners desire the whiskers to be clipped, but you should first check with the owner. Use scissors.

An easy breed to groom. Your basic bath and dry. Before and during the bath you can remove hair shed in the coat with a soft bristle brush.

The finished appearance can often be improved using a final coat conditioner (the type applied AFTER the bath). Most of these conditioners, used sparingly, are lightly rubbed onto the coat, and then distributed with a light, gentle brushing. Some groomers then lightly rub the conditioned areas with a chamois cloth to produce more gloss. The maintenance interval grooming using a natural bristle brush helps to maintain a shiny coat. A glossy spray coat conditioner is fine too.

MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

Careful. It's easy to get water in the ears of this breed when bathing. Use cotton balls and caution to prevent that from happening.

Apply a natural gentle skin cream to elbow calluses.

"Don't forget their is a wire Ibizan that is in the AKC standard. On them as well as the smooth coated Ibizan you should use a mild/hypo shampoo for your show dogs or pets, on your pet I would recommend a hypo conditioner also. I only use La Pooch shampoos and conditioners on my pets and show dogs as well as my clients pets and show dogs. On the wire you need a wide/medium tooth comb and stripping knife. The comb is of coarse to comb out the dog the stripping knife should only be use by professionals that know how to use them. The stripping knife is not use to change the appearance of the dog but to help in removing unruly hair. The whiskers on both the smooth and wire are NOT to be removed they should be shown with their whiskers. I also prefer to us a Dremel tool to grind down my dogs toenails, since the pads are very thick on the Ibizan, the toenails seem to grow very long very fast, it helps maintain a nice clean hair foot. I hope you keep in mind that the Ibizan Hounds is best dried with a towel that is rolled going over the dog in the direction of the hair growth not a back and forth motion." Multi-Breed Books

These books contain little or no breed specific grooming information. They do provide very good to excellent general breed information. Of course, having pictures of the breed is a great help when grooming the breed compared to having nothing else.
