BLADES & TOOLS
Slicker brush, metal combs, natural bristle brush, hand stripping knife (optional) thinning shears and scissors.
 

COAT & GROOM TIPS

The Irish Wolfhound haircoat is fairly hard, and lightly abrasive. Areas of wiry hair are likely, especially the eyes and below the mouth.

Protein rich shampoos can add body to the Irish Wolfhound coat. Some groomers prefer to use a molting comb for the initial brush and comb out.

You will likely comb more than brush this breed. Light thinning can smooth hair growing from the toes, and the top of the head as well as other areas of overly stray hairs. Undercoat can be removed during the drying process unless the dog is in very poor condition prior to your starting to groom it.

The beard and whiskers should be molded square and left somewhat full. Whiskers may removed on customer request.

Hand stripping knife can be used to remove stray hairs on the head and ears, although some groomers will simply scissors the head and not use hand stripping. Hand stripping is not commonly known by most groomers.
MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

Careful. It's easy to get water in the ears of this breed when bathing. Use cotton balls and caution to prevent that from happening.
