COAT & GROOM TIPS

Regular grooming is very helpful with a full coated Skye Terrier. The haircoat should be firm, flat and straight. There is an undercoat which is wooly and soft, and close to the skin. It can become matted, especially when exposed to moisture. Gentle handling of the haircoat during bathing and drying is encouraged to prevent hair breakage. Some pet owners not concerned about maintaining a show quality coat and appearance will have the hair coat clipped shorter for easier maintenance, although this is far more popular with crosses.

Don't overly scrub the haircoat during the bath to protect its silky nature, and allow the shampoo instead to dissolve dirt and grime.

The final comb out is important on the Skye Terrier. After hand fluff-drying use combs to make a part down the center of the back, and then comb the hard on the sides downward. Do more combing than brushing on this breed.
MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

Be sure to fluff-dry the Skye Terrier. It's important to to groom the ears afterward to improve their neat appearance.

Be sure to scissor around the feet to neaten their appearance. Have the dog standing up on the grooming table and scissor around them evenly.

Careful. It's easy to get water in the ears of this breed when bathing. Use cotton balls and caution to prevent that from happening.
