COAT & GROOM TIPS

Regular brushing and combing is essential in order to remove substantial wooly hair shed from the dense undercoat, and not only the outer coarse guard coat which protects the undercoat. The density of the hair coat can be misleading to novice groomers or owners of this breed; it is fairly dense.

This breed may acquire stained hairs around their eyes from watering between grooming appointments. You may need to snip some of the stained hairs away very carefully with scissors. As always, when scissoring or clipping near any dog's eyes, you must have solid control of head movements by properly gripping their muzzle firmly, yet gently.

The breed has a double coat, smooth on face and front of legs. It has moderate length on the body and lays flat with a silky texture. Feathering should be present on the ears, back of forelegs, tail and buttocks with the latter area having longer hair. A mane longer hair is on the neck. Feathering between toes often extending beyond the feet. In the show ring it is essential the Tibetan Spaniel be presented in an unaltered condition with the coat lying naturally with no teasing, parting or stylizing of the hair. Whiskers are not to be removed. Hair growing between the pads on the underside of the feet may be trimmed for safety and cleanliness.

MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

Clean the furrows of the face with a moist soft cloth or cotton, dry and lightly powder to absorb moisture which can lead to skin problems.

Multi-Breed Books

These books contain little or no breed specific grooming information. They do provide very good to excellent general breed information. Of course, having pictures of the breed is a great help when grooming the breed compared to having nothing else.
