COAT & GROOM TIPS

Welsh Springer Spaniels have a double coat. The undercoat is shorter than the outer coat and noted for being dense and soft. The outer coat tends to be longer than the undercoat, and a bit wavy. The hair coat must be maintained on a regular basis. A healthy coat is noted for its shine, and feathering is very important for a well-styled dog. Show standards for styling and coat appearance are very strict for this breed and will require an advanced groomer professional.

Most groomers removed the whiskers from the muzzle, chin and face and above eyes.

Do not overly straighten the body coat during the blow dry. Brush in the direction of the growth. You can blow dry the ears and legs.

MORE GROOMING TIPS FOR PROFESSIONALS

Thinning shears are used to neaten the appearance removing stray hairs, and to help the coat lay flat across the back and sides. The feathering is usually scissored to even and neaten.

A light mist of coat gloss adds more beautiful sheen if not naturally present as it should be.

Multi-Breed Books

These books contain little or no breed specific grooming information. They do provide very good to excellent general breed information. Of course, having pictures of the breed is a great help when grooming the breed compared to having nothing else.
