Managing a Client Relations Program

In a growing, successful pet grooming business you will find a business person that grooms, and not just a pet groomer.

Effective client relations is dependent upon the manager supervising his or her own performance, as well as that of the staff to provide expert client services. Managing a clients relations program is then, "quality control." It encompasses everything, appearance, comfort, services, records, attitude, and the health and safety of people and pets. Appearance includes not only the inside of the business, but the outside. You must provide a potty-area where pet owners can relieve their pets.

Enjoy managing your business, and your staff will join you. Protect your valuable business investment, and protect the people and pets you care for. Indeed, the pets you care for are potentially worth thousands of dollars. Maintain a close relationship with your clients and be sure to continually ask their opinion of the services they have received, and for ideas of new services they desire. You must strive to maintain an awareness of the quality your business offers, as well as that of your competition. Offer improved services whenever possible. Even the most successful managers strive to look for improvement at all times in order to stay ahead.

Your staff is an extension of your business and you. Train them regularly and discuss client relations issues at staff meetings. Build their awareness of others so that they understand that there are as many viewpoints as there are clients. The goal is to manage total client satisfaction, and that can only be done by honoring your product as well as the diverse personalities of your many pet owner clients.

Learn all you can about client relations and customer service. Read The Art and Business of Pet Grooming and From Problems to Profits. Refer to this web site's Professional Groomer Library Main Menu for more information about these pet grooming business books. Check your local bookstore for other general reference and business books on the topic of client relations. Attend a seminar or night class in customer relations. As a self-employed person, your mastery of the art of client relations will become evident by your growing a large client base. In a service business like pet grooming, you cannot have a large client base and provide poor client relations.
