Discussion of the Survey
2006 marked the first year we separated mobile groomers from other groomers in
our pricing surveys. It is of course not unusual for mobile grooming prices to
be higher than those of a grooming in a stationary location because of the
exclusive to groom on-site at the homes of pet owners. We predicted mobile
groomer fees would be $10 higher to $20 higher on average for comparable
services, and that has essentially held true with some exceptions. It also
appears that the regional pricing trends were very similar to non-mobile
grooming. In other words, if prices were highest in the Middle Atlantic for
non-mobile groomers, the same was true for mobile groomers in that region.
We expect diverse comments as usual from the results of this survey. Some will
say the prices are too low, and others too high, that's just the nature of
pricing surveys across a broad region, like the entire United States. Therefore we remind everyone once again the results are averages. In the same county, city or rural
area fees obviously differ. Here we take the results by a defined region and
average them. So you can expect that some prices will be lower or higher than
your actual prices. If you would like to discuss the results of our pricing
surveys you can do so at GroomerTALK Message Board, but please avoid sharing
your actual grooming prices which is against the terms of use for the board due
to legal concerns for price fixing allegations.
The highest prices were generally in the Middle Atlantic region (New York, Pennsylvania and
New Jersey). The next highest prices were commonly found in New England (Maine,
New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island) and the
Pacific region. Generally, the lowest
average fees originated in the West North Central region (North and South
Dakotas, Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska and Kansas).
In addition to grooming
prices we asked these additional questions.
