Did you know the majority of grooming career seekers choose grooming for two reasons? The first is of course they love animals, styling and want to work with them. The second is not as well known. They also want to be self-employed some day. The demand is there too. Around 1,000 new grooming businesses open every 2 years in the United States.

The most popular choices are:

  • Shop or salon (These terms are used interchangeably).

  • Mobile grooming van or trailer.

  • Home based grooming.

  • Leased space (kennel, daycare, veterinarian, pet store, even a shop or salon or just a "table" in one).

  • "Housecall grooming" without a mobile vehicle. Grooming in the home of the pet owner.

You can learn more about the similarities and differences of these choices in the Main Menus. We suggest you read the Home, Mobile or Salon Main Menu and Starting a New Business Main Menu.

A growing number of career seekers prefer to purchase an established business after their schooling. You will find Business for Sale ads in the PetGroomer.com Classifieds.

We strongly recommend that you read the entirety of PetGroomer.com to understand the nature of owning and operating a grooming business, and purchase recommended business books in our Bookstore. We also host the premier website for the business-side of grooming selling Grooming Business in a Box® books, workbooks, software and consultation services.
