Best Grooming Tip Contest 2004

Pomeranians

I have found that the quickest and easiest way to brush out a Pomeranian is to do it in the tub. This also works for any type of heavily coated dogs with an undercoat. As soon as they get in my van, I cut the nails and check to see if there are any large matts behind the ear and in the rear. Any large matts I make a few passes with my thinners but don't brush it out. Put the dog right into the tub after this. Then give them a bath with Best Shot and let them sit for a few minutes. A recirculating pump type of shampoo system also helps get the hair out and shortens your bathing time. Take your slicker brush and COMPLETELY brush out the dog in the tub. The amount of hair that comes out in a very short amount of time is amazing. Make sure you keep dipping your brush in the soapy tub water. The slickness of the suds helps the undercoat brush out easily. This way the "snow storm" that you create when you HV is cut back dramatically. Drying time is cut in half. Very little brushing is now required and the dogs are happy you are not pulling and tugging on them.
