Havanese I breed show and groom Havanese. One thing that works really well for these little guys is to use a good conditioning spray while drying this really helps to not use anything is hard on the coat. Another thing to watch out for if you have a Havanese owner wishing to continually wishing to cut the dog short you may want to alternate this hair cut as the coarse hair comes in changes color and often stops growing properly (even in young dogs I always recommend a longer cut). Most Havanese owners are willing to learn how to brush or bring the dog in weekly if you suggest it. After all most people did a lot of research before buying one and then paid $1500 to $2000 for it. We have a lot of complaints on our site about being able to find a groomer familiar with the breed. But when they do you have a customer for life. The coat is much easier to maintain than a Lhasa etc so even two week baths and brushing (on a longer dog) is sufficient. Their feet are trimmed to avoid any appearance of boatness also they may be shown with the hair on the top knot braided to each side secured by small bands never any bows the hair may not be artificially parted but is allowed to fall naturally to each side the longer the coat the more it will appear parted. Brush blowing these guys dry really adds a natural finished look. Thanks. Chris |
