Interchangeable Blades and Blade Tension Each clipper manufacturer has a different hinge size. WAHL, OSTER and ANDIS are different. If you put a blade on Oster hinge it will likely be slack on your Andis and may result in very uneven grooved clipping. There are some exceptions with truly interchangeable blades but even then I don't think it is as good as usual blades and clippers from the same manufacturer together. If you do set tension yourself you have to realize there is no commercially available gauge to the best of my knowledge. Laube hinges seem to be closer to Oster than Andis. Keep in mind that the socket has 2 ears which fit around the hinge of your clipper. When a blade is put on a large hinge the ears are pushed to size and then do not return to the original size hinge and you can get loose movement and suspect noises and uneven clipping. Be careful, not all hinges are the same from the same manufacturer. Tim Wright |
