Best Grooming Tip Contest 2004

Muzzle Alternative

If you happen to get the "fear-Biter" and don't like to use muzzles, give this a try. Praise and pat the client if possible and have the correct muzzle on the table within reach and sight of the client. Hold the muzzle to their nose and speak SWEETLY telling them to be good so we won't be made to use this (the muzzle). I make sure they see me put the AWFUL thing down on the edge of the table - away from the dogs head but in sight. Every time I sense they are ready to turn on me I will hold the muzzle up and tell them what can happen if they don't be good. Most will watch the muzzle to be sure it won't sneak up on them. I have had to put on the muzzle and do a small amount of grooming (always the simple gentle stuff) and then remove it. Rarely do I have to finish using the muzzle.
