Removing Large Dogs from Elevated Tubs To help a large dog get out of an elevated tub, 1) Place a towel on the floor for the dog to land on. 2) Wrap your strong arm (for me my right one) under the abdomen, while using your other one to wrap around the neck. You can use a leash or a towel around the neck for more control if needed. 3) Encourage the dog to lift his feet over the edge, while you guide him, inching out and over the tub toward the floor using his weight and gravity to help him land safely instead of your back. Most dogs will just slide down the side of the tub. For dogs that refuse this way, take them out moving the back legs over the edge first so when they land they are actually in an upright standing position briefly with their front paws on the tub edge.
