Cat Grooming When grooming cats always wear welder's gloves when reaching into their cages. Trust no cat at the very first. Muzzle all of them at first with a muzzle that covers the eyes, watch their ears and tail for clues, and listen to them very carefully for the angry howl or growl they use to warn you. Always keep one hand holding the scruff of the neck gently but firmly. Don't hold the cat's whole body by the scruff. Make sure the feet are on the table before you use it for leverage. Never let go of the scruff of a cat that is howling or growling at you. While working on them, say "kitty kitty kitty" in a soft high voice. This calms many cats. Lynne Schlumpf |
