"Romeo"

This is Romeo. A new client was transferred to the Philippines for a period of time leaving his dog in the care of relatives. When he returned he found a mess on his hands--and now mine! This wonderful dog is a Mini Poodle or possible mix. He was so matted that it took 6 hours to groom him with breaks of 15 minutes or so (yes, it was THAT bad!). I used a #40 to cut the "cast" mats from his legs. Yes, his legs literally were casted in mats! I used #10's and #15's on the rest of him. His ears were so matted that when I finally got the mats off, his ear tips were red and inflamed from the blood rushing to them and he shook his head vigorously. His tail was cold and I believe losing blood supply due to the strangulation from the mats! Every time we let him down for a break he would run and roll and look at himself in the mirror. I had never seen something so terrible; I was actually frightened about this tedious grooming. He felt SO good afterwards, and he was so happy with me for grooming him that he sat in my break room recliner with me the rest of the afternoon watching soap operas until his dad came back to get him!
