I am presently doing my internship at Animal Kingdom Veterinary Center, for the Pet Grooming/Pet Shop Management Program at Kirkwood Community College. This is one dog I will never forget! She validated my career choice. Jazz is a teacup poodle who was taken by its owner's adult children after they visited and saw her condition. The owner thought that grooming was too stressful on Jazz. Solid mats covered her eyes and her ears were plugged with hair and wax. Her mouth was nearly matted shut with old food. Urine trickled down a hardened "mat-stick" that had formed near her vulva. Mats encased her legs and feet forcing her nails to grow out to the side. Once the shaving began, it had to be done gently and quickly as it's weight began pulling her hair out. She had abrasions and sores in many areas. She needed several baths and was quite patient until we were done. When she was FREE from her coat of bondage she wanted to run and play! She delighted everyone who saw her! She will be going to a new home and a series of grooming appointments were made to ensure her continued comfort.
