I know an elderly family that inherited a dog that her kids kept passing around the family because to them, it's just a dog. This lady doesn't have the money to get the dog grooming or use veterinary services, and she cannot care for the dog herself. I work for a vet and finished grooming school, and I just cannot stand to see Gizmo, a Miniature Poodle (age unknown) go uncared for. I know his owner really cares for him so I take him to my job and pay for his care. I use him as my Guinea Pig to practice grooming,scissor work and coloring. I never charge her because I love to see the before/after results. Gizmo is always so cheerful and runs around like a puppy after he is finished. He loves going for a car ride to my house. After he is finished I feel good because his owner is so pleased to see him feel better. In these pictures he was very dirty, flea infested, matted and had burrs in his hair. I had alrady given him a clean face before taking any pictures. Gizmo is perhaps 5 years old and until I groomed him, he had never been groomed. Now I will do him every month at no cahrge because I enjoy his company. I feel that we should all find at least one Senior with a pet and help put a smile in their day. I make a day out of it and she comes over and we talk too. Groomers, making people and their pets happy. That's our joy.
