"Precious"

Precious was surrendered to the Humane Society by owners whose reason for allowing her to reach this state was that they were afraid to have her groomed because they thought she needed her coat for “protection”. Nobody at the shelter had the skill to even know where to begin, and with no funds available, euthanasia was considered. Fortunately the vet who examined her felt that she was otherwise healthy and deserved a chance. Thankfully I heard about her in time to volunteer my services. Underneath four inch thick mats was a gorgeous little Persian about 10 years of age. She displayed a sweet temperament so I took her home with me and worked on her over four evenings, she was phenomenally well behaved and though the shelter was prepared to sedate her if necessary, she just laid on the table and purred through the whole thing. We never needed a muzzle (or any restraint for that matter) my husband just sweet-talked her through it. When the big mat on her back came off and we watched her turn around and try to groom herself for the first time in who-knows-how-long we couldn’t help but applaud. Her skin was in pretty rough shape under the mats, and very smelly, but several soothing, medicated shampoos later and she was an infinitely happier cat. I sent her back to the shelter with pages of grooming information and a coupon for her new owners for a free groom & a brushing demonstration.
