When I was a little girl I would visit my Aunt Edna's grooming salon, The Golden Clipper Dog Grooming Salon. It was such a nice place to visit; she worked very hard to make it a wonderful place for the clients and their dogs. It was so enjoyable to work with her. Of course I did the brushing and bathing only as I watched her make the dogs so beautiful; you could see she loved what she did. As time went by, and I was married and had one child, I still would visit my Aunt from time to time until she became ill and passed away. Her little salon was closed. My son was in grade school at the time when I was doing a lot of volunteer work in the school and community; my husband said to me jokingly "As much as you are gone you could be working." What an idea! I thought, "What could I do that I would enjoy?" Groom dogs! And this is where the fun began. I rented a small place in the town where we lived. It was only $75 a month. My husband remodeled it as I told him how I thought it should be. While we were doing this people would stop and make appointments for their dogs. The day came to open the salon. As I drove into town I wasn't scared (as I think back, I should have been.) My first day was full of appointments at the new Golden Clipper Dog Grooming Salon. Everything went great. All the studying that I had done paid off. The dogs weren't as pretty as today because I have since learned so much more. But I loved it, and still do. It has been 9 years now grooming dogs. The place may change but the name stays the same, The Golden Clipper Dog Grooming Salon. Lori Tapscott |
