Hacienda La Puente Grooming School is a low
cost Adult Education Program offering 3 levels of Certificates for
completion in pet grooming and and other pet care services. Adults 18 or
older may enroll. The certification programs now available are:

Lectures
& Videos
Students are provided lectures and videos.
General dog and cat topics include dog and cat anatomy, nutrition,
movement, behavior, recognition of American Kennel Club breeds, and common
purebred cat breeds. Grooming topics include all breed grooming
techniques, clipper handling and maintenance and beginning and advanced
scissoring. Special topics include safety and handling techniques, small
business management and customer relations.
Hands
On Training
Hands on training is an important part of
learning pet grooming. All phases of the grooming process are taught. This
includes brushing, combing, shampoo, anal gland expression, fluff-drying,
clipping, scissoring and finishing.
Students work one-on-one with dogs daily.
The teacher trains one-on-one with students. Students gain experience
grooming both purebreds and mixed breeds. Breeders provides students with
American Cocker Spaniels, Bichon Frises, Golden Retrievers, Pekingese,
Pomeranians, Miniature and Standard Poodles and Siberian Huskies on a
regular basis in order to reinforce grooming procedures and training.
The school offers grooming services to the
public and which provides students with numerous mixed breed dogs. A
variety of purebred and mixed breeds are also groomed from local dog
rescues.

Field
Trips & More
You can look forward to several
field trips familiarizing you with the pet industry. Field trips
includes visits to grooming salons and boarding kennels, Humane
Societies and Animal Shelters, and animal clinics and hospitals.
There are trips to pet industry trade shows, the Los Angeles
County Fair as well as the Los Angeles County Zoo. |
Guest speakers provide you with even more
industry knowledge. You can meet kennel owner operators, grooming salon
owners, mobile grooming van operators and veterinarians. PETsMART and
PETCO representatives are guest speakers, as well as clipper, shampoo and
dryer manufacturers and distributors. |
