After 20 years in Insurance and Business, Ilys Posner, founder of AAOPG, decided to follow her dream career: Grooming. Within 2 short years she was grooming some of the most exclusive dogs in NYC. From there The Little Red Pet Shop was born - a full service grooming, boarding and daycare facility in the heart of Manhattan.

Her dreams have come true with hard work and knowledge. You can do the same. Whether you want to be a home groomer, shop groomer, mobile van groomer or run your own business, you can learn the essential skills to start your path to success. Within only 150 hours you can have a certificate from a licensed institution that will open the doors to your career in pet grooming!

One of the most important lessons in pet grooming is learning by doing, not later on the job. With individualized attention you will learn. All of our instructors are experienced groomers. They will teach you grooming and share their field experience to better prepare you to develop your own client base. We also have guest lecturers from professional groomers in the metropolitan area. But, bottom line, you will learn by doing.

Our placement program works!! Graduates of the American Academy Of Pet Grooming are securing gainful employment in the grooming industry. Our school is located within The Little Red Pet Shop, an established store in the Grammercy Park area of Manhattan, across from the new Baruch College campus. Public transportation is easily accessible within 2 blocks of the school, as well as many moderately priced hotels. An annual highlight is the Westminster Kennel Show held annually in February.
