The Canine Clipper School of Pet Grooming has a certificate to operate
issued by the Virginia Board of Education. We are dedicated to
furthering the grooming profession and to the idea that its graduates
perform in a skilled and responsible manner. Students under the
direction of our highly skilled instructors will acquire the necessary
skills for employment in the many sub-specialties of our field.
The instructors of the Canine Clipper
School of Pet Grooming have won many awards in national grooming
competitions. One having taken a 3rd place award in poodles and a 2nd
place award in Mixed Breeds at the 1987 Virginia Dog Groomers Contest
and another has taken a 2nd place award in pure breeds and a 3rd place
award in Miniature Poodles at the February 1991 Virginia Groomers
Association contest. Also, many of our graduates have placed in
numerous grooming competitions nationwide. In 1994, two of the
graduates won a Gold Medal and a Silver Medal at the International
Competition "Intergroom 1994."
Linda
Law, the owner, has over twenty years grooming experience and is a
certified Master Groomer with the National Dog Groomers Association of
America, Inc. and is also certified in Poodles and has passed her
Masters with the International Pet Groomers Association. She is also a
previous competitor in classes of obedience, training, and national
grooming competition. Linda took her last of many awards as 2nd place
at the 1991 Atlanta Pet Fair in Scottish Terriers. She has been
invited to judge and speak at the Grooming Competitions nationally.
Ms. Law
has raised Miniature Schnauzers starting in 1973, when she learned to
groom them both for pet and show. Handstripping is one of the
techniques she teaches so students will know some of both; show
grooming and pet grooming. She also has managed a pet retail store
with a quote of $400,000 per year and was top salesperson in the chain
for two of the three years she was with the company. Retail and
merchandising are some of her strong points. She has bred Rottweilers
since 1982, which has led her into breed and obedience rings with the
AKC, as well as into tracking and protection.
Students receive extensive training in
dog and cat care. The curriculum includes 120 hours of lectures plus
480 hours of practical application. The lectures cover a broad range
of information in the pet grooming business including topics such as:
Management Principles for Operating Your Own Business. Another
important part of the curriculum is the visits made to other pet
related facilities. The students should be prepared to bring with them
enthusiasm, creativity and an expression of their own individuality.
They are taught to use "Kennel Soft" on the computer (no previous
computer experience is necessary), the most widely used kennel program
in the United States, at this time.
In order to give the student the highest
quality education possible, we only allow six students per session. In
allowing only six students, our instructors are able to give personal
attention to those students needing extra help.
